Housing Choice Voucher Certification Program

This certification consists of 4-1/2 days of review of the HUD guidelines governing Housing Choice Voucher.  Passing the exam will earn the participant the designation of Certified HCV Specialist.  This certification will be available during the VAHC Annual Conference.  Those who successfully complete the review and exam will earn 12 CEUs.

In order to maintain the Certified HCV Specialist designation, 12 CEUs must be earned in a 24-month period.  The 24-month period begins the first day of the review and ends one day prior to the Annual Conference that is held two years later.  For example, if you successfully completed the review and exam at the 2006 Annual Conference, you will need to earn 12 CEUs on or before the first day of the 2010 Annual Conference and every twenty-four month period thereafter.

In the Fall following the Annual Conference, those who have earned the designation Certified HCV Specialist will have the opportunity to become a Certified HCV Housing Counselor.

The HCV Specialist Certification encompasses HUD guidelines and regulations governing HCV rental program. 

The HCV Housing Counselor Certification denotes the individual has earned the Specialist Certification and also has successfully passed the exam encompassing housing counseling for the HCV rental client.
