About the Fall 2011 Conference

This conference is designed for Housing Counselors, Housing Administrators, and Housing professionals. We will offer a variety of sessions and opportunities to address housing counseling related issues on the first day. Individuals interested in obtaining the designations of Certified Housing Counselor or Certified Comprehensive Housing Counselor may take the certification exam on the second day of the conference.

Certification Testing Information

Recertification Update Session
VAHC Housing Counselors that received their certification prior to 2009 are required to
attend this session for the latest technical information on Counseling Basics, Code of Ethics/Privacy, Referrals/Resources, Credit, Financial Management, and Fair Housing. No
exam required. This is the last time this session is being offered at the conference.

Certified Housing Counselor
This certification will equip individuals with basic tools and techniques to formulate case
management plans for credit and housing counseling, financial planning, and guidance in program management. Exam required. A testing preparation session will be offered prior to the exam. Prerequisite for Certification: Certification candidate must have worked in the
housing industry for at least three to six months.

Comprehensive Certified Housing Counselor
This certification will provide certified counselors with advanced training in the areas of
homelessness, rental, homebuyer, and homeowner counseling. Exam required. A testing
preparation session will be offered prior to the exam. Prerequisite for Certification: Candidate must be a VAHC Certified Housing Counselor and the recertification session in 2010 –2011.
